Husain played a pivotal role in setting up the strategy and partially executing energy investments as part of the Sovereign Investment Partnership signed by the UAE and UK governments in 2021, which included a GBP 10 billion capital deployment plan. He also transformed Masdar’s offshore wind and European BESS investments from a passive role to a more active development approach and established Masdar’s presence in the UK over the last three years.
Husain is responsible for Masdar’s $24 billion offshore wind portfolio and led the recent capital deployment plan, which includes:
– Dogger Bank South: USD 14.5 billion
– Dudgeon Extension: USD 0.8 billion
– Baltic Eagle: USD 1.8 billion
– BESS portfolio: USD 1.3 billion
A recognized leader in the global renewable energy sector, Husain has played a pivotal role in advancing Masdar’s position in offshore wind and battery storage. He previously worked as Contract Advisor for Equinor (formerly Statoil) during the construction of the Dudgeon Offshore Wind Farm and the Hywind floating wind project. Husain holds board positions with the London Array, Dudgeon Offshore Wind limited, Dogger Bank South, Baltic Eagle and Chairman of the Board for Masdar Arlington. In addition to his executive role, Husain serves as a member of the UK-UAE Business Council, where he is the Deputy Chair of the energy working group, helping to shape energy partnerships between the UK and UAE.
Before joining Masdar, Husain held senior positions at TAQA Distribution (Previously known as Abu Dhabi Distribution Company), where he gained expertise in the asset management lifecycle for electricity and water infrastructure.
Academically, Husain is pursuing a PhD in Economics and Policy of Energy and Environment from University College London (UCL). He holds a Master’s in the same field from UCL, a Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Management, a Master’s in Engineering Management from Abu Dhabi University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
