Richard Sandford

Richard is currently CDO at Jera Nex bp.

With nearly 40 years of experience in the energy industry, Richard is a is a recognised leader within the offshore wind sector. Until the end of June 2025, Richard is serving alongside the UK Secretary of State for Energy as Co-Chair of the UK Offshore Wind Industry Council (OWIC) and is Chairman of the World Forum Offshore Wind.

An engineer by background, Richard started his career as an apprentice at the CEGB, holding roles in engineering, operations, and maintenance before moving into the renewables sector in 2008. He was Project Director for Gwynt-y-Mor offshore wind farm and has held various global offshore wind leadership roles since. He joined bp in 2022 and initially led the company’s activities in the UK, including the portfolio of projects Flora, Morgan, Mona, and Morven.
