Karsten Schneider

Mayor of the municipality Ostseebad Binz

Karsten Schneider has been mayor of the municipality of Ostseebad Binz since 01.09.2011. The native Prignitzer from the country Brandenburg has led in two respects the love to the island of Rügen, namely the love to his wife and to the uniqueness of Germany’s largest, most diverse and from his point of view most beautiful island. He is particularly fond of the Baltic resort of Binz.

After graduating from high school, he studied to become a teacher in Güstrow. Two teacher training programs for economics and computer science in Rostock and Greifswald were added after reunification. Since 1989 he was in the teaching profession and since 2000 he worked as a high school teacher at the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Gymnasium in Bergen.

As a non-partisan citizen, he was already involved in the Committee for Social Affairs, Education and Sports before his term as mayor. During his ten years as mayor, Karsten Schneider has shown great commitment to the challenge of making the Baltic seaside resort of Binz even more attractive for both its citizens and its numerous guests, taking up problems and finding solutions for both the material and ideal satisfaction of each individual.

He has supported many decisions or set them in motion. One of the biggest challenges, given its historical history and dimensions, is the development of the Prora district, which has since been recognized as a resort. Of equal importance, of course, is tourism; here, for example, there is still work to be done in terms of infrastructure, but also in terms of island-wide solutions.

Mr. Schneider is active in a variety of sports and can be proud of his successes to date. He is also interested in culture and art.
